Install of the Month: Grizzly Turf

California Finds Green in the Drought

In the delicate aftermath of California’s worst drought and subsequent water restrictions, many homeowners, businesses, and organizations are still resorting to synthetic grass for low-maintenance and perfect greenery year-round.

Grizzly Turf, an artificial grass landscaping company based out of Orange County, recently installed 2,200 square feet of TigerTurf’s Diamond Light Spring on a high-traffic church courtyard. Diamond Light Spring has a dual coloring of field green and lime green, which gives the appearance and realism of natural grass. Additionally, the product also features TigerCool, a turf blade technology that reduces turf temperatures up to 10 degrees in direct sunlight, making this an ideal product to install in Southern California.

Many cities in the state are offering a rebate for those who install it due to the drought and water restrictions. According to Stephen, the project manager from Grizzly Turf, Laguna Niguel is offering a rebate of $2.00/sq. ft. for residential properties and $1.00/sq. ft. for commercial. “I am absolutely seeing a surge in the market as water restrictions are on the rise. California is in the midst of another drought and now more than ever are customers eager to transcend having to deal with costly maintenance and brown lawns,” Stephen adds.

Stephen said that this installation was a breeze, and also mentioned that the members of the church were a pleasure to work. For the longest time, the church had trouble keeping their lawn allure because of the incredibly dry soil beneath the lawn, and wanted something that would revitalize the landscape without the watering or maintenance. Given their regular schedule of events at the church, including mass, weddings, baptisms, communions, and occasionally funerals, they wanted a durable product for people to walk across and for children to play on. Grizzly Turf was able to give them just what they needed.

Grizzly Turf is the top rated company on Yelp that solely specializes in artificial grass installations with services all across Los Angeles, South Bay, Inland Empire, and Orange County. The company started in 2015 is known for in-depth and thorough consultations with their customers and always putting their customers’ best interest first. We leverage technology to streamline every aspect of what we do,” Stephen says. “From customer support all the way through installation and beyond, we know we can provide a consistently superior experience.”

Artificial Grass Eradicates Florida Mud Issues

The rainiest seasons of Florida can cause the worst mud issues. That’s why many homeowners are installing artificial grass in their yard and getting rid of the issue once and for all. With the right installation and product, homeowners have found they can achieve a clean and picture perfect aesthetic that is high-quality and feels like real grass.

Turf Concepts Unlimited, Inc. recently installed 1,000 square feet of our TigerTurf Diamond Pro Spring in this unique backyard. Diamond Pro Spring offers a drainage rate of 30+ inches of rain per hour per square yard. It has a dual coloring of field green and lime green, which makes it look like real grass. Synthetic Grass Warehouse claims the product is tough and durable, yet soft and pliable.

The homeowners of the featured backyard wanted a zero-maintenance backyard that looks great and incorporates a unique landscape. Incorporating the stonework with the turf was tricky however. “We laid one piece of turf over the stones, so all grains run in one direction. Then we cut out stones individually,” said Glen Minnis, owner of Turf Concepts Unlimited, Inc. Minnis always refers SGW’s Diamond Pro products to homeowners because “it has everything a homeowner would want.” Besides the rain causing mud issues in Florida, many residents have struggled with debris in the pool due to the grass; Minnis has noticed that once homeowners switch to turf, they no longer have that issue anymore.

Turf Concepts Unlimited, Inc. takes pride in installing turf all over the Palm Beach and Broward Counties. They do not cut any corners and always provide a high quality installation that will last their clients for years. “A common sense business, and if you install it in a common sense format, it will never fail,” said Minnis. They’ve installed turf one way for 20 years and have always had satisfied clients.

The company started in 1998 with only installing sports field turf. They began installing landscape turf after working with a few SGW samples and discovered their helpful customer service and high quality products. Through countless referrals and recommendations, Turf Concepts Unlimited, Inc. have set themselves apart from just providing the best business and installation without the help of advertising. They’ve completed project after project and are actually booked until the end of July.

Install of the Month: Boulder Creek Landscape & Synthetic Grass

When it comes to the installation of artificial grass, many homeowners are still hesitant on making the switch. With preconceived notions about artificial grass products of the past, many don’t realize that manufacturers like Synthetic Grass Warehouse use new technology to propel the development forward into new, hyper realistic turf products that rival natural lawns. From landscape artificial grass to synthetic putting greens, the advancements have created an opportunity for the industry to branch out to new potential installations.

Boulder Creek Landscape & Synthetic Grass recently installed 2,500 square feet of Synthetic Grass Warehouse’s AllPlay Nylon Putt 1-Tone in this Lincoln backyard. AllPlay Nylon Putt 1-Tone features a lush field green color tone in a textured nylon material for added durability. Set on top of a three millimeter padding, AllPlay Nylon Putt 1-Tone can be utilized as a portable all-purpose play mat or can be installed for a highly cushioned feel.

“We enjoyed the challenges that this project presented ,” Rob Warner, owner of Boulder Creek Landscape & Synthetic Grass, told us. “ Being that it was on a large ranch, it made more for a unique working environment. This putting green was also a bit challenging because of the different elevations of the hillside”. It was important to their client that this green be the showpiece and focal point of their yard and Warner planned to deliver. “They wanted to incorporate the oak tree into the green as well and overall, this project turned out beautiful,” he said.

Besides putting greens, Boulder Creek Landscape & Synthetic Grass also installs a lot of landscape turf. They believe wholeheartedly in quality over quantity. “It’s so important to us that we only provide the absolute best when it comes to our installations,” Warner says. “Doing good quality work on each and every project, reinforces a positive mindset on the turf industry as a whole.”

Warner also says that customer understanding should always take forefront over selling the job. “Because we really believe in synthetic grass and what it offers, I make sure that the customers always know what they should look for in an installer and a product even if they decide to go with someone else. I want to bring break down those negative stigmas and make sure people know that turf is a good solution for them.”

Boulder Creek Landscape & Synthetic Grass started in 2003 doing landscaping in the Lincoln area. In 2008, they began installing turf in addition to the services they already provided. “Our work really does speak for itself,” Warner says. “Our focus on quality really is the determining factor as to why someone will choose us. Hopefully by educating potential clients, they will get a top quality installation which I think furthers the industry as a whole.”

Install of the Month: USA Turf Guy

Whether it’s going to work, cooking, cleaning, or driving the kids around, there’s a lot to accomplish in a day that prevents homeowners from taking care of their lawns.

USA Turf Guy recently converted a natural grass lawn to artificial grass for a Phoenix resident, using 2,580 square feet of TigerTurf Everglade Spring for the front yard and an additional 4,400 square feet for the backyard. Everglade Spring artificial grass is a soft, moderate weight artificial grass that is a popular choice for homeowners, and showcases both field and lime green grass blades, in addition to a brown thatch layer mounted on a strong backing. Armed with the latest tuft bind technology, this artificial grass can handle moderate amounts of foot traffic because each grass blade is triple reinforced into the perforated backing.

“This family had not had much luck with their natural grass,” Clay Busby, owner of USA Turf Guy told us. “Both homeowners work and enjoy traveling so they are out of town often. They figured turf would be the next best option so no one would need to worry about watering, mowing, or landscapers.” Like any home, this installation had its own set of challenges. “We worked hard to accommodate the trees in the yard as well as adding spotlights to all five trees on the lot,” Busby said.

USA Turf Guy has been in business for over 5 years now. He focuses on educating homeowners about how artificial grass can benefit them and why they should stick with American made products.”We’re a veteran owned and operated business and we have replaced numerous yards where the imported products have failed to hold up over the years so we only deal with American made,” Busby says. “With the technology and the realism of American made turf, I find that homeowners really see the difference and understand how it can complement their busy lifestyle.”

Busby likes to work directly with his clients to give that extra bit of attention, and makes sure every install is done like his own yard. “This is more of a passion than a job and I want to make sure every one of my customers knows that I stand by our products and our work,” Busby said.

Install of the Month: One Putt Greens and Lawns

In California, homeowners have to deal with a variety of different terrain types when it comes to the beautification of their yards. Whether you live on the beach or in the hills, you can encounter a variety of rock formations, soil types, trees, and foliage that can make it difficult to create the yard of your dreams.

One Putt Greens and Lawns recently installed 25,200 of Everlast Turf’s Yosemite into this Escondido backyard. Everlast Turf’s Yosemite series is a top choice among certified landscapers nationwide. With its field and lime green colors and an added brown thatch layer, the Yosemite series is recognized for its realistic look, feel, and has a soft, pliable oval shaped grass blade. The clients chose Yosemite for its good balance between look, price, and quality.

“The client was looking for a product that would allow them to host frequent visitors and do something about the rock formations on their property,” One Putt Greens and Lawns owner, Robert Diaz, told us. “It was a challenge because of the large size of the yard and terrain, but we are really proud with the end result.” Curvature in turf installations can be difficult to overcome, but Diaz knew they would be able to accommodate. “We gathered the rocks in clusters and formed islands of rocks with bender board.”

One Putt Greens and Lawns has been working within the turf industry for going on 20 years. Their specialties are not simply limited to lawn conversions, as they also do work in putting greens, batting cages, bocce ball courts, and hardscapes when they’re related to their turf installations. One Putt Greens and Lawns has a A+ BBB rating and a wide variety of product options for each project.

Install of the Month: Xeroscapes

While many homeowners make the switch to turf for water conservation or money reasons, Arizona residents have been using turf to appeal to curbside home shoppers.

Xeroscapes recently installed 1,570 square foot of Everlast Imperial Fescue Mid in this Arizona backyard. Imperial Fescue Mid artificial turf features both field and olive green grass blade color tones that are paired with a brown thatch layer. Each blade is coated with a U.V. inhibitor during the manufacturing process so the colors will not fade. This product was the perfect solution for this project due to the budget. The client was in the business of flipping houses for resale and their budget was for the home’s entire remodel. They preferred the thinner blade look that Imperial Fescue Mid could provide.

“The client was looking for a clean, manicured look,” Glenn Lavery, owner of Xeroscapes told us. “In Arizona, many transplant residents from other areas of the country want more greenery than the desert can provide. The Sonoran Desert has some beautiful things to offer but grass is not one of them.” In order to resell these homes, flippers need to appeal to the greenery standards these out of state shoppers are looking for and Xeroscapes has been providing. “This client was a friend of mine, but I’ve done 5 installs in this community and I am confident he will be calling me again for his future projects,” Lavery says.

Xeroscapes began their turf industry work in 2006 and serves the Marana, Oro Valley, Vail, and Corona de Tucson area. They have been featured in Tucson Lifestyle Magazine and provides discounted service to homeowners with a sod lawn. Lavery is also very proud to offer a wide variety of artificial grass options due to his relationship with Synthetic Grass Warehouse. “Cutting edge turf technology along with first class customer service is the driving force behind the success that has made us one of Tucson’s premier turf installers,” Lavery says. “A 15 year warranty is attached to these products, but a warranty is no good if no one is there to provide it. I believe we have a track record that shows we’re here for the long haul.”

Xeroscapes is our January 2018 “Install of the Month” winner.

Install of the Month: OC Turf and Putting Greens

Artificial grass has been steadily growing in popularity with homeowners. We have seen an increase in turf being used on commercial properties.

OC Turf and Putting Greens recently installed a 3,500 square foot artificial grass putting green outside of The Irvine Company office. The installation includes a unique combination of True Putt, Pet Turf, and Diamond Pro Spring to achieve their desired look. TigerTurf True Putt is a high quality putting green that features PGA rated high green speeds, while Diamond Pro Spring synthetic turf features a dual shade of field and lime green grass blades paired with a brown thatch layer for that extra touch of realism. Pet Turf is extremely durable, made for high levels of traffic, and is equipped with proprietary turf backing where each grass blade is triple reinforced through tuft bind technology.

“The Irvine Company wanted to provide their employees with an activity they could enjoy on their break or after work,” David Vega, owner of OC Turf and Putting Greens, told us. “They had this beautiful open space that could really be transformed.” While installing this green, the OC Turf and Putting Greens crew had to be very cautious of the surrounding trees. “They care a lot about their trees so we worked with arborists to ensure the turf installation wouldn’t disturb them,” Vega said. “We worked hard to make sure the putting green complimented the trees instead of getting rid of them.”

Putting greens have been a hugely popular request for OC Turf and Putting Greens. “A lot of people install putting greens because they’re good practice for golfers, but they’re also family friendly. Anyone can play and spend time together, but it also makes any yard or commercial area look great.”

OC Turf and Putting Greens has been installing artificial grass all over Orange County since 2006. Other notable installations include The Festival of the Arts, as well as the federal building in Laguna Niguel. They have also won “Best Synthetic Grass Company in Laguna Niguel” two years running. “We put a lot of pride in our work and we are very customer oriented,” Vega said. “OC Turf and Putting Greens is the company that fixes issues right away and doesn’t cut corners.”

Install of the Month: SmartGrass

With today’s synthetic turf products featuring grass blades that contain multiple shades green and brown, we are now able to offer turf products that look just as real as any natural grass lawn. Because of this, more homeowners are making the switch. Even early adopters are upgrading to newer versions of artificial grass to take advantage of the improved realism.

Craig Voyton, owner of SmartGrass, noticed this to be a recurring trend in his 15 years in the turf industry. “Homeowners switch to turf because of the aesthetics. They want the perfect, natural grass look, but don’t want the maintenance responsibilities that go along with it,” he told us. “The best selling products are the ones that are going to hold up, have great color, and work well with pets or kids.”

SmartGrass recently installed 1,200 square feet of Diamond Pro Fescue and 250 square feet of Poly Putt 2-Tone in this Rancho Palos Verdes tiered yard. Diamond Pro Fescue features dual shades of field and olive green tones complimented by a brown thatch for added realism. Poly Putt 2-Tone 15’ is the natural progression of putting green turf which has been tested to closely replicate professional putting greens.

Voyton believes that the progression of grass and its popularity happened simply because of the timing. “First we had the drought in California which was followed closely by the government rebates and benefits for switching,” he says. “After a while, people want their green lawn back and the installers and homeowners are demanding more aesthetically pleasing products.” Voyton saw numbers really start to go up approximately 8 years ago when turf changed and became a more advanced product.

“I get clients from 8-10 years ago calling us and asking for an upgrade and we’re happy to help,” Voyton says. “The switch is done much easier and at a lower cost to the homeowner because the foundation is already done from the previous turf installation.” Business is always growing for SmartGrass and they don’t see it slowing down anytime soon.

SmartGrass has been in business for over 15 years and has installed more than 6,000 artificial grass projects. Their long-standing business has allowed them to do many installs for dog rescues, Veteran groups, and celebrities. With over 100 Yelp reviews and a 5 star rating, Smart grass takes pride in their customer service and their products. SmartGrass is also not limited to the California area. They send crews to a variety of states including Nevada, Arizona, and the east coast.

Smart Grass is our November 2017 “Install of the Month” winner.

Install of the Month: WinterGreen Synthetic Grass

When it comes to artificial grass, many reluctant homeowners worry about only one thing – whether or not it looks artificial. Everyone wants their lawn to look and feel real, but they don’t want the maintenance or irrigation needs that go along with a lawn.

WinterGreen Synthetic Grass owner, Winter Moore, saw things differently. “When I came across artificial grass for the first time, I thought it was a brilliant idea,” Moore told us. “Homes are popping up with artificial lawns all the time and when one person has it, everyone has to have it.”

WinterGreen Synthetic Grass, an artificial grass installation company based out of Texas, recently converted 3,400 square feet of natural grass with Synthetic Grass Warehouse’s Diamond Light Spring for a home located within the Vaquero Country Club.

This installation within the country club was a great way to further promote the growing popularity of turf. The curiosity of passing residents has made this the third installation by WinterGreen Synthetic Grass inside the community, with two more in queue. “This is the domino effect. We’re just going to see more people making the switch as they realize synthetic grass isn’t as fake as they thought,” Moore says.

Since seeing is believing, Moore has decided to pour additional resources into the photography and videography side of his marketing. WinterGreen Synthetic Grass teamed up with a local drone operator to take aerial photo and video for the company. Moore says, “We know our installations are top quality and we want to make sure our potential customers can see how good and real it looks while they imagine possibilities for their own space.”

WinterGreen Synthetic Grass has been in business for over 3 years and services the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex. They are frequently featured in Fort Worth magazine and recently did work for the Dallas Stars hockey team.

WinterGreen Synthetic Grass is the October 2017 “Install of the Month” winner.

Install of the Month: Tri City Synthetic Turf

Californians often resort to planting drought tolerant foliage for their landscapes. Even though the water restrictions have ended, the installation and planting of desert friendly plants and artificial grass has not subsided.

Tri City Synthetic Turf, an artificial grass installation company based out of San Marcos, recently converted 3,150 square feet of Synthetic Grass Warehouse’s Everlast’s Sequoia and 320 square feet of TigerTurf’s True Putt for a local homeowner.

“This job was about half turf installation, half landscaping. We included drought tolerant plants and giant stepping stones to break it up and make it more interesting,” Fedor Maus, owner of Tri City Synthetic Turf told us. “She was looking to create a luxury backyard that would still be water wise.”

For the homeowners, creating a landscape that the entire family could enjoy together was extremely important. “They decided on Sequoia because the color and feel of the product is so natural and beautiful,” Maus said. “We find that many homeowners that switch to synthetic turf are doing it for the low maintenance and realism, rather than just saving water.”

Tri City Synthetic Turf was founded in 2007 and pride themselves on being a smaller, more involved company than their competition. “It’s always my goal to leave a customer satisfied with a smile on their face,” Maus told us. “We are really hands on and we stand behind our work 100%. We’re very proud of the products we use and our work ethic.”

Tri City Synthetic Turf is the September 2017 “Install of the Month” winner. Congratulations!
