For artificial turf customers, the process hasn’t always been this simple or straightforward.

Perhaps you knew a friend of a friend who works at a turf factory in Georgia. But you didn’t expect to have to buy thousands of dollars of material sight unseen. Or be told that the turf you desire is out of stock and must be re-submitted in the dreaded “next production cycle.” And they might not have told you about a “limited warranty,” or the “minimum order.” They might have neglected to mention that you would be responsible for finding a truck and driver to get the turf cross-country to your “storage destination,” and shipping might take up to 10 business days or more.

Possibly you tried to buy from a synthetic grass “broker,” a middleman who can’t access the turf you really want but adds 25 or 50 or 75 cents to the square-foot cost.

Now consider the SGW way:

We’ve achieved an unsurpassed reputation in the industry for satisfaction and service, and standing behind what we sell. You make the call!

Puppy Proofing Your Home With Artificial Turf

From those big brown eyes to those giant paws, the newest addition to your home can become an added challenge. “Puppy-proofing” can potentially be a long-winded process that takes up much time, effort, and money. In fact, some may even compare it to the excruciating process of baby-proofing a house. However, it definitely has its added benefits, including preserving the condition of your house and key parts of your property, including your furniture and your yard. Another significant benefit is to, of course, ensure utmost safety for your puppy. Though the process may entail several p tasks, there are a few easy changes that can be done to significantly aid in creating a safe environment for your new puppy. One of these changes is the switch from a natural lawn to a synthetic grass lawn. This relatively simple task can turn your backyard into a comfortable, durable, and safe place for your puppy to play on and enjoy.

Modern artificial grass is specifically designed to be pet friendly. The synthetic polymers used to engineer pet turf are completely non-toxic and not harmful, eliminating possible concerns for your puppy. All types of pet turf are also designed with strength and durability in mind, both with intricate yarn composition and heavy duty tufting to ensure several years of quality, day after day. Artificial turf blades are designed to be resilient, even with rough play, heavy traffic, and even digging. Since synthetic grass needs no watering and has no dirt, your puppy can play all day in your yard without tracking in mud and paw prints inside your house…imagine your entire property as a paw print-free zone!

Even though synthetic grass for dogs is manufactured to be very durable, it is also soft and comfortable to the touch…even undistinguishable from natural grass. Your puppy will not even know the difference! Even in hot or cold seasons, the turf remains comfortable to the touch. With UV protectant coating, turf surfaces are able to deflect sunlight and heat. For a quick way to reduce surface temperature, simply hose down the turf for a few minutes, and you will instantly see results. The cutting edge drainage system allows pet urine, water, and other liquids to manually drain through the perforated surface with no added effort. This keeps the turf surface nice and dry. Urine does not discolor or deteriorate the turf whatsoever. With the drainage system, your puppy’s paws can stay nice and dry.

Pet turf also has deodorizers that combat funky smells, including the smell of pet feces. These deodorizers are nontoxic but effective. Solid pet waste can easily be picked up and removed manually, just like that of a natural lawn, making clean up simple and easy. Overall, the switch from a natural grass lawn to a synthetic grass lawn can be a significant investment that can help to preserve your property and create a safe environment for your puppy. Even when your puppy grows, your artificial grass lawn will remain durable, reliable, comfortable

Senate Bill 759 Vetoed – What this could mean for the synthetic grass industry

The long-term controversy of artificial grass “turf wars” involving homeowner’s associations’ consent for turf within their communities continues. California governor, Jerry Brown, recently vetoed Senate Bill 759, which would render null any attempts for homeowner’s associations to ban the installation of artificial grass.

The bill was first introduced in late February of this year by Senator Ted Lieu. Though the bill forbade HOA’s from having complete jurisdiction over the authorization of artificial grass, it did not consent homeowners to alter the bylaws of these associations through current proposal processes. The bill passed in April before being vetoed on July 13.

What this means for synthetic grass suppliers is probable challenges within the future. Though the introduction of bills to block HOA’s from having full say in the use of synthetic grass has been ongoing, the power of the veto still stands in the current state. This may present circumstances that are far from ideal for the artificial grass industry, but it is not enough to shatter the overall business activity amongst turf companies.

A number of HOA’s in many states have already embraced the low maintenance lawn alternative, supporting increased growth of residential turf yards each year. Households have quickly adopted turf for its cost-effective and minimal maintenance requirements—many of which are desired by neighbors who are eager to make the switch themselves. This trend may very well continue, therefore exhibiting the future of synthetic grass and HOA’s as more promising than not.

Artificial Lawns Used For Paintballing

Your heart is pounding as you quickly shuffle away from the enemy, avoiding being a target at all costs. You are dressed and loaded head to toe with protection and ammo, mentally fit for battle. You may be thinking this sounds a lot like combat and warfare, and though it may be for some, it is a day’s worth of recreation and fun for others. The sport and pastime of paintball has been around for a few decades now (primarily being exposed in the 80’s), gaining more popularity throughout the years. There is much to be said about war-like games amongst people of all ages, which is seen to be an entertaining and exhilarating hobby for many in the present day.

Much like football, lacrosse, soccer, and other popular sports, a sport and recreational activity like paintball requires a durable and lasting playing field. Though some paintball fields incorporate the natural environment, such as a woodsy area, forest, or desert, other indoor and outdoor paintball facilities utilize other materials, including artificial turf. Artificial turf has been used for paintball facilities for several years now. This is because it can easily be adaptable to the paintball environment, providing both traction and safety for players.

Synthetic lawns used for paintball is engineered to be lightweight for easy performance. A significant component to the game of paintball involves the use of field bunkers, which, in less natural environments, are usually large inflatables that players can utilize to hide from enemies. Synthetic turf used for paintball is designed to accommodate bunkers of all types. The type of synthetic grass used for paintball surfaces are usually made from either nylon, polyethylene, or a combination of both. Paintballs themselves, used for ammunition, are primarily made from polyethylene glycol and other water soluable ingredients. Thus, the paint is easily removable from synthetic grass because of the polymers it is comprised of.

When an artificial lawn is installed for paintball premises, it remains sturdy for several years, needing only minimal maintenance. For outdoor fields, rain proves to be no problem because of its manual drainage system that takes care of any liquid right away. This ensures that the quality of turf will last, as no liquid or water will collect due to efficient drainage. This also prevents bacteria, spores, mud, and other potential problems. The fact that artificial grass does not need to be watered, weeded, mowed, or fertilized makes it a top surface for the sport of paintball. Trying to maintain a natural lawn with high traffic, paint, bunkers, mud, and weather conditions can thus be too challenging.

Modern turf designed with different face weights, density, pile heights, and more, offer a great variety of products for potential paintball usage. Much like American football, soccer, and other commonly played field sports, synthetic grass for paintball is made with quality, safety, and durability in mind. Whether it is a large outdoor paintball field, or a smaller indoor facility, there are many synthetic turf options available for the sport of paintball.

Our Grass is Safe for your Pets!

One of the most appealing characteristics of our artificial grass is the fact that it is pet-friendly. Modern pet turf is designed specifically with pets in mind, catering to safety, durability, and comfort. With state of the art technology, modern artificial pet turf is just as soft as regular grass, eliminating the need for costly and time-consuming maintenance. With the quick and easy installation of artificial grass, any household with pets can enjoy the benefits of minimal maintenance while being assured of safety, long lasting quality, and an overall beautiful yard.

When idealizing the perfect yard for a household with pets, safety is by far one of our greatest concerns. Artificial grass is manufactured with synthetic materials that are free of dangerous toxins and lead, eliminating health hazards for pets. The polymers used to create synthetic turf blades are durable and will thus not melt when heated. Though surface temperatures can increase when exposed to direct sunlight, the temperatures remain safe when watered down to cool the surface, thus keeping it comfortable for your pets even in the hotter months of the year.

With the unique yarn composition and extrusion, modern artificial grass has a texture and feel that is very similar to natural grass. Thus, comfort for your pets does not have to be compromised with artificial grass. Pets enjoy rolling and playing on artificial grass because of its realistic feel. The strong design of modern pet turf keeps it durable, even with rough play, digging, and contact with larger pet breeds. The lack of dirt and mud eliminates the tracking of paw prints, grime, and muddy messes. This can help with the overall appearance of your backyard, porch, flooring, and carpeted areas. Even dead and barren grass spots are eliminated with artificial turf due to its synthetic elements that maintain a healthy aesthetic despite digging, heavy traffic, and pet play.

When it comes to cleaning up and dealing with pet waste, modern synthetic pet turf is designed to make clean up simple and easy. Artificial grass for pet usage is designed to withstand pet urine without becoming discolored or wearing away. Also, instead of urine collecting in the surface of the turf, all synthetic grass is equipped with a technologically advanced drainage system that drains quickly and effectively. The drainage backing is highly perforated, allowing urine and other forms of liquid to easily drain through manually, in all directions. No effort is needed to rid of urine, as it drains itself on its own, eliminating unpleasant odors or smells. With solid pet waste, it can easily be hosed off or cleaned up manually just as it would be with a natural grass lawn. Many pet turf products have deodorizing components that keep it fresh and eliminate possible odors.

Artificial turf for pets is the ideal lawn solution for households that want a comfortable and safe surface for their pets. With minimal maintenance and added durability, pets of all sizes can enjoy synthetic grass, while owners do not have to worry about dead grass. With pet turf, homeowners can reap the benefits of decreased upkeep and can enjoy a healthy-looking lawn 365 days of the year.

Is Synthetic Grass Safe?

Throughout the decades of synthetic grass usage, safety has always been a primary factor of concern for the public. Because of its child-friendly, pet-friendly, and athletic characteristics, the product has been the topic of controversial debate concerning possible health hazards, including lead content, crumb rubber, heat, and possible sports injuries. Thus, there have been several studies done on both old and new artificial turf products to ensure the safety of the products.

Concerning a controversy involving the discovery of elevated amounts of lead particles in older artificial grass fields, a recent study showed that the Environmental Protection Agency found no threat to children and people exposed to inhalation of these particles. Though the amounts of lead found were increased amounts, studies showed that the ingestion or inhalation of such amounts is not enough to be considered a health hazard.

Crumb rubber, or crushed tire rubber pieces that are used for infill have also brought debate to the forefront concerning exposure safety. Concerns stemmed from children tracking in pieces of crumb rubber after playing on playgrounds. The EPA conducted a study on sports fields and a playground with infill and artificial grass. With the samples taken, concentrations of concern were low. However, results cannot be considered conclusive since not all crumb rubber is the same. For now, results do not prove actual harm, nor do they conclusively eliminate possible harm altogether.

Studies on synthetic grass and heat have uncovered surface temperatures to be quite high in synthetic grass, particularly on athletic fields. Studies have shown that artificial turf can reach up to approximately 173 degrees Fahrenheit. This was for areas under extreme direct sunlight. It was noted that the infill beneath the turf was a significant factor in determining heat and surface temperature. Modern infill technology has helped to keep these extreme temperatures down. Also, studies showed that simple hosing or watering synthetic grass could reduce average synthetic grass surfaces by approximately 50%. In a specific study involving the use of a sprinkler system and a football field, the entire football field’s surface temperature was reduced a total of 60 degrees. Thus, any heat concern can easily be remedied with the use of water to effectively reduce surface temperatures and the trapping of heat.

Concerning studies about athletic synthetic turf and possible sports injuries, turf was found to have more velocity, torque, and traction. Thus, a different array of minor injuries, such as muscle spasms and strains were found with athletes who played on synthetic grass. Altogether, athlete injury frequencies were basically the same between artificial grass fields and natural grass fields. However, natural grass fields actually showed instances of other injuries, since it contains mud, potholes, dips, uneven surfacing, and more. These could result in more serious injuries overall.

With constant studies in place, that status of synthetic grass safety is always kept up to date. Whether company-hired studies or university studies are conducted, safety levels are, for the most part, effectively measured. These studies continue to prove the safety of synthetic grass as a product for varied households and athletes alike.
